London is the global art capital and the London Art Biennale is where the contemporary art of the world is presented. The Biennale 2017 gathered artwork from approximately 40 different nations, showcasing artists who have exhibited in some of the most important museums in the world as well as emerging artists selected for their talent.
The 2017 London Art Biennale official opening and reception was hosted at the Chelsea Old Town Hall, King's Road. There was a string duet to accompany the evening and the selected wine, offered by Gagliardi Gallery, was called "Vernaccia" and it was produced by the Strozzi Princes on their thousand year old vineyard.The Strozzi are direct descendants of Leonardo Da Vinci’s model depicted in his “Mona Lisa”. Also of interest, Lorenzo the Magnificent, leader of Renaissance Florence, sent a case of "Vernaccia" to the Pope in the 1500s as s gift.
The event was inaugurated by the Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea and the artworks of 120 artists from 40 nations was exhibited in a wonderful celebration of contemporary art. There was also a charity auction, in which numerous prestigious lots were available for purchase, such as a signed Chelsea FC shirt and football, items from Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Gagliardi Gallery and more.
